A Christians Listening recording

Considered by many to be Chesterton’s greatest masterpiece, this book declares his comprehensive view of world history as informed by the Incarnation. Retelling man’s story from the very beginning, he shows how all of men’s desires are fulfilled in the person of Christ and Christ’s Church. With his characteristic brilliance and irony, he argues that Christianity is not just a religion to stand beside other religions, for the fact of the Incarnation sets it quite apart.

One of the most original and controversial theological works ever written, this book offers a commanding perspective of world history and offers to restore our sense of wonder in the universe, our God, and ourselves.

REVIEWS

"I read Chesterton's Everlasting Man and for the first time saw the whole Christian outline of history set out in a form that seemed to me to make sense."—C.S. Lewis

“Probably the best Chesterton has written. It is so rich in good sense, wit, and in plain profound and cheerful truth that almost every page deserves a review to itself.”—Spectator

“[In] the mood of clarity the author creates for us...Mr. Chesterton performs a miracle which comes well in this sophisticated age of scorn.”—Boston Transcript

GILBERT KEITH CHESTERTON (1874-1936) published some 116 books which include compilations of his voluminous journalism, novels, biography, history, criticism, Christian apologetics, poetry, and two plays. Many of his novels have the genuine marks of genius. His books on Dickens (whom he had a considerable affinity with) and Saint Thomas Aquinas are considered classics in their fields. His approach to apologetics is completely unique. His work is characterized by tremendous zest and energy, with a mastery of paradox, a robust humour and forthright devotion.
